PEKIN, Ill. — Pekin’s Marigold Festival will look a bit different this year.
The Pekin Chamber of Commerce announced in a news release Wednesday, instead of the traditional Marigold Festival, they will hold “A Taste of Marigold” due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19.
Events that can safely be held, allowing for social distancing, will go on the weekend of September 11-13.
Masks will be worn by all volunteers and vendors, and masks will be recommended for festival goers too. Hand washing stations will be set up and hand sanitizer will be available.
Art in the Park, the Miss Marigold Pageant and the carnival will not be held. And, there will not be a celebrity guest this year.
Other plans include a Drive-Thru Parade hosted by Grand Marshal Mary Haynes, a Drive In Movie Night, the Marigold Medallion Hunt, and the Chalk Walk contest.
The Kid’s Experience committee will host a take and make giveaway with a drive through pick up.
The Festive Foods area will be at alternate locations instead of at Mineral Springs Park.
