EAST PEORIA, Ill. – A 32-year-old female from Normal has been identified as the victim in the fatal crash on Interstate 74 Friday morning near Pinecrest.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley says the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
He says the accident occurred just before 8:45 A.M. near the Pinecrest exit.
East Peoria Fire says the SUV she was driving was traveling westbound when it drove through the median, traveled into eastbound traffic, and hit a semi-truck head-on. She was pronounced dead at the scene just after 9:20 A.M.
Traffic was reopened in the area at around 2:15 P.M., more than five hours after the crash occurred.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning, with Hanley saying more information will be released Monday afternoon.

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria Fire says there’s one fatality in an accident that has shut down Interstate 74 near Pinecrest this (Friday) morning.
Officials say the crash involved a semi-truck and an SUV, with one person in each vehicle.
The SUV was reportedly traveling westbound when it drove through the median, traveled into eastbound traffic, and hit the semi-truck head-on.
East Peoria Fire says the driver of the SUV died.
The road is still reportedly shut down as the crash remains under investigation.

EAST PEORIA, Ill. –A rollover accident in Tazewell County shut down I-74 eastbound Friday morning.
Traffic was being rerouted at the East Washington Street exit in East Peoria.
Traffic eastbound was stuck between Washington Street and the accident, being turned around into the westbound right lane.
Reports are that the accident involved a semi and another vehicle that rolled over and caught on fire.
The interstate is expected to be blocked for a significant amount of time.
