PEORIA, Ill. — UnityPoint Health and the Susan G. Komen Memorial Affiliate Wednesday announced a renewed partnership, while unveiling the Komen Memorial’s new offices inside the UnityPoint Atrium Building.
“We are both in the business of serving people. Whether it’s serving breast cancer survivors, individuals living with metastatic cancer and so much more,” said Komen Memorial Co-Executive Director Gayle Young.
Young said Komen’s move will give women fighting breast cancer easier access to the support and resources they need and deserve.
“We’re right here in the beautiful Atrium Building, right outside some of the new cancer services that UnityPoint Health has to offer,” Young said.
UnityPoint’s Vice President of Hospital Operations, Jeanette Murray, said Susan G. Komen’s relocation downtown to the Atrium Building will benefit breast cancer patients all over Central Illinois.
“Their services are now just steps away from our Oncology Department, including our High Risk Breast Clinic, where we offer genetic testing and counseling for our patients,” Murray said.
Murray adds, the renewed year-round partnership between UnityPoint Health and Susan G. Komen Memorial have them collaborating on a number of annual events including the “More Than Pink” walks in Peoria and Bloomington, the Circle of Promise Breast Cancer Survivor, Caregiver & Friends Breakfast and the Pink Promise Survivor Fashion Show and Luncheon.
The Komen Memorial Affiliate on Wednesday announced that 2020 Peoria “More Than Pink” Walk will be held virtually this year due to COVID-19. Originally planned for Saturday, May 9 at the Metro Centre, the event will now be held on Saturday, October 3 on a new virtual platform.
